Comments: With the winds nearing gale force, initially from the south-east but veering southerly from mid-day and with frequent torrential rain all the days interest was offshore. With some excellent seawatching available a mammoth stint of 14hr of observation was achieved which produced two Velvet Scoters, an excellent total of 29 Black-throated Divers, 159 Fulmars including two blue phase birds, three Manx Shearwaters, 2000 Gannets, two Grey Plover, 34 Bar-tailed Godwits, a Pomarine Skua, a spring record total of 91 Arctic Skuas, our second best-ever spring day total of 147 Great Skuas (see 18th for more information), 125 Little Gulls, 910 Sandwich Terns, 1900 Common Terns, 180 Arctic Terns, 40 Little Terns and 11 Black Terns.
