Description

The Verhonkulma pier on the west coast of the large, open lake Vanajanselkä offers an excellent autumn migration monitoring location for wildfowl, gulls and waders. Some of the flock migrate very close by this spot, some migrate on the opposite coast, to the south-facing directions. The pier has a space for a big group of birders if necessary. Here is some of the migration sums from best days from previous years:
- 20300 Geese
- 3500 Greater White-fronted Geese
- 13000 Barnacle Geese
- 940 Wigeons
- 351 Pintails
- 127 Great Scaups
- 384 Common Scoters

- 358 Golden Plovers
- 366 Grey Plovers
- 86 Red Knots
