Description

Viidennumero is a good spot for migration watching, especially during autumn. The main stream of migration goes from cape Pappilanniemi directly to south, to cape Jylhänniemi in south, but part of the flocks turn to southwest over the Sääksmäki suspension bridge and follow the causeway. There are also flocks flying south further southeast, from Huittula towards Lahinen, but on the opposite direction i.e. in the large lake Rauttunselkä, there is no passerine migration. Obviously the lake is too big to fly over, especially when there is a nice route to south right next to it.

Location

The best spot is the NE end of the Sääksmäki suspension bridge and the rocks right next to it. The traffic naturally makes listening bird calls difficult, so every now and then, the identification must be based totally on visual observations. The car is best to leave at the parking lot on the southeast side of the bridge, address is Hämeenlinnantie 39, Valkeakoski.
